Dignity Period in St. Louis, Missouri
In Greater St. Louis, 22% percent of residents live below the poverty line. They struggle to afford necessities like rent, transportation, and groceries—including menstrual hygiene products.
To fight against period poverty in St. Louis, Dignity Period provides menstrual health education and reusable menstrual pads to middle and high school students attending St. Louis public schools. Dignity Period also supplies backpack programs that reach at-risk youth.
Dignity Period also serves adults and families in need through collaborations with local libraries, food pantries, and diaper banks to ensure a wide distribution of period kits throughout the St. Louis region and into Franklin County.
A study of low-income women in St. Louis found that nearly half (46%) could not afford both food and menstrual hygiene products during the past year.
